This week take a look at the leaders of the Civil War mentioned in Study Island and written below.  Your job is to write a dialog (or conversation) between the a leader from the Union Leaders and a leader from the Confederate Leaders.

Topic for dialog: Each leader should talk about their views and roles in the Civil War.

Dialog should be at least 5 lines per Leader.

Example of Dialog (this example would is 1 line per Leader):
Lincoln: My name is Abraham Lincoln and was President during the civil war
Robert E. Lee: This is Robert E Lee leader of the Confederate Army.

Grant:My name is Ulysses S. Grant and I was the 18th President of the United States,and I was military Commander during the Civil War and post-war Reconstruction periods.


Jackson:My name is Thomas Johnathan "Stonewall" Jackson, and I was a Confederate general during the American Civil War, and one of the best-known Confederate commanders.


Grant:I also fount a series of major battles and captured a Confederate army, earning a reputation as an aggressive general who seized control of most of Kentucky and Tennessee at the Battle of Shiloh.


Jackson:My military career included in the Valley Campaign of 1862 and his service as a corps commander in the Army of Northern Virginia.


Grant:In July 1863, after a long, complex campaign, I defeated five Confederate armies,capturing one of them and seized Vicksburg.


Jackson:After the Confederate Valley Campaign of 1862 Confederate pickets accidentally shot me at the Battle of Chancellorsville on May 2, 1863, which the I survived, albeit with the loss of an arm to amputation.



Grant:After another victory at the Battle of Chattanooga in late 1863, President Abraham Lincoln promoted me to the rank of lieutenant general and gave him charge of all of the Union Armies.


Jackson:However, I died of complications of pneumonia eight days later. MY death was a severe setback for the Confederacy,This affected not only the military prospects, but also the morale of the army and of the general public.


Grant:After leaving office, I embarked on a two-year world tour that was received favorably with many royal receptions. In 1880, I made an unsuccessful bid for a third presidential term. In 1884, broke and died of cancer, I wrote his memoirs.


Jackson:Military historians consider me to be one of the most gifted tactical commanders in the nation's history.

Abraham Lincoln - My name is Abraham Lincoln . I was a president of the U.S .

Robert E. Lee - I am Robert E. Lee . I was the leader of the confederate Army .

Abraham Lincoln - I was president during the civil war .

Robert E. Lee - My role was to serve as a senior military adviser to President Jefferson Davis .

Abraham Lincoln - I was also a country lawyer , and Illinois state legislator .

Robert E. Lee - In the spring of 1864 , the new union commander Ulysses S Grant , began a series of campaigns to wear down my army .

Abraham Lincoln - I was brought up in a poor family , so I was mostly self educated .

Robert E. Lee - While I was stationed at Fort Monroe , I married Mary Anna Randolph Custis .

Abraham Lincoln - After deftly opposing the expansion of slavery in the U.S in my campaign debates and speeches , i secured the republican nomination and was elected president in 1860 .

Robert E. Lee - On January 31 , 1865 , I was promoted to general-in-chief of Confederate forces .

Robert: I was the most famous general of the confederate army.
Lincoln: I wanted to keep the nation together.
Robert: I won many battles of the war.
Lincoln: I was elected the 16th president.
Robert: I took charge of the army Northern Virginia after Joseph Johnston was wounded.
Lincoln: I suspended the writ of habeas corpus.
Robert: I lost the battle of Gettysburg.
Lincoln: I was assassinated on April of 1865.
Robert: I surrendered to Ulysses in April 1865 at Appomattox Court House.

Ulysses S. Grant: My name is Ulysses S. Grant general of the Union army. I destroyed a lot of confederate armies too.

Robert E Lee: This is Robert E Lee leader of the Confederate army. I won a lot of wars and took in charge after the injury.

My name is Abraham Lincoln. I became president in 1860. I was the president during the Civil war. My primary goal was to keep the country united.In 1863 I gave the most memorable of my speeches at Gettysburg.

My name is Robert E. Lee. I was the most famous Confederate general in the Civil War. I had command of the Army of Northern Virginia. Also I led the Confederate army to many victories from 1862 to 1865. I surrendered to Grant in April 1865 at Appomattox Court House.

Abraham Lincoln- 1...Abraham Lincoln won the presidential election of 1860.
2...Became the 16th president of the United States when he took office in 1861.
3...His primary goal was to keep the country united.
4...His mission was to stop slavery from happening in the confederate states
5...In 1864, Lincoln was re-elected as president but was assassinated after.

George McClellan-
1...George McClellan was a major general in the Union Army.
2...He became general in chief in November 1861.
3...Lincoln had removed McClellan from his command in 1862. In 1864,so McClellan had ran for president
He was strongly supported by his home state.

George Meade-1..was a Union officer who fought many battles in the East at the same time as the Chancellorsville
2...1863, Meade was made commander of the Army of the Potomac so that was a success for him.
3...Meade effectively lost control of the Army of the Potomac, when Ulysses S. Grant to the forces into his hands

Ulysses S. Grant- 1... Ulysses S. Grant had joined the Union Army in 1860 as a general.
2...n 1865, Grant defeated Confederate leader Robert E. Lee, who surrendered to Grant.
3...He focused on dividing and destroying the Confederate armies.

William Tecumseh Sherman-1....was a Union general that led a campaign called the March to the Sea.
Sherman was very successful and good at what he was doing

Sherman 1.....army destroyed anything that they thought might be beneficial to the South's war effort, including crops, and railroad tracks.
He really didn't like any one that was acting strange.

Davis: My name is Jefferson Davis I am the president of the Confederate States.

Grant: I am an against slavery.

Davis: I am for slavery I own a plantation.

Grant: I moved my troops to the mouths of the Tennessee and Cumberland rivers and controlled the main waterway into the Confederacy.

Davis: My army attacked Grant's army at Shiloh.

Grant: In 1862 I captured Fort Henry.

Davis: In 1862 my army had 55,000 men.

Grant: I joined the army of the Potomac.

Davis: I surrendered my army at Appomattox Court House.

George McClellan: This is George McClellan, i was a major general in the Union Army.

Thomas Stonewall Jackson: My name is Thomas Stonewall Jackson and was a brigadier general in the Confederate army.

George McClellan: I gained some small victories at the same time that the Confederate Army won the First Battle of Bull Run.

Thomas Stonewall Jackson: At the First Battle of Bull Run, I earned my nickname by making sure his brigade stood "like a stone wall."

George McClellan: I then commanded the troops in and around Washington, D.C., and became general in chief in November 1861.

Thomas Stonewall Jackson: I was then made a general and took my army into Maryland and Virginia, where i won several battles before losing a battle in May 1862 and retreating.

George McClellan: My cautiousness made me fail to take Richmond in the Peninsular Campaign, and I then suffered heavy losses in the Battle of Antietam.

Thomas Stonewall Jackson: I joined Lee in the Seven Days Battles and led the Confederate army into the Battle of Fredericksburg.

George McClellan: Abraham Lincoln removed Me from his command in 1862.

Thomas Stonewall Jackson: I passed away after the Battle of Chancellorsville in May 1863
