Every election year, you probably hear political advertisements explaining how a certain person or group thinks the country should be run. Disagreements over the role of government are not new. Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson had opposing views on the role of the national government. That opposition resulted in the creation of two political parties. The debate over the role of the national government has continued throughout United States history.

The Federalists (Led by Alexander Hamilton)
• Favored strong national government
• Favored limits on states’ powers
• Favored development of industry on a national scale
• Favored a national bank
• Strongly disagreed with the French Revolutionaries

Democratic Republicans (Led by Thomas Jefferson)
• Favored a weak national government
• Supported states’ powers
• Favored small business and farmers
• Opposed a national bank
• Favored the French in their revolution

Two major political parties of today compared to those in our countries past is Republican of today for the love of a weak government is similar to democratic Republicans from the the past because they two favor a weak government.

Another party of today compared to those in the past is Democrats they are limited to states power so democrats are compared to federalist.

Some of the same things that will become a contrast will be there laws. They both in the old days and today still disagree in a lot of stuff. The laws means that they will never ever agree in any laws. Another thing is that they still call themselves parties except for the Republicans were called The Federalists.

There are many ways that the two major political parties of today compare to those in our countries past. First off they are both party's against each other. Secondly they both agreed and disagreed on things. Finally people then and today whiten these groups would vote on president's. Those are a few examples on how the two major political parties of today compare to those in our countries past.
