_Made up of the first ten amendments of the United States Constitution, the primary function of the Bill of Rights is to protect fundamental individual rights and prevent government interference with existing rights. In 1790, Congress submitted 12 amendments to be ratified by the states, 10 of which were adopted in 1791.

  • Pick two of the first ten amendments listed in the Bill of Rights (also on you study island lesson) and summarize what they are....Include what rights they give you.

The first two amendments were about freedom of speech, it's also about the freedom of the press and what you can do when you are in trouble and freedom of religion. The second amendment is about the military and the freedom to arm something.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

First Amendment is the right to the freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the right to peaceably assemble, and the right to petition the government.

Ninth Amendment
"The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."

The Ninth Amendment states specifically that an individual's constitutional rights cannot be denied.
