The white population of the new United States did not stretch far beyond the eastern seaboard until the 19th century. The British Proclamation of 1763, the War of 1812, geological barriers  and the lack of modern-day transportation all provided resistance against westward migration. But by the mid-1800s, the concept of Manifest Destiny–the belief that Americans had a divine right to expand their territory–gained footing, and Americans began to buy into the inevitability of settling both unexplored and already-claimed western frontiers, including the lands that now make up Texas, California, Colorado and Oregon. Assignment:  Create two arguments for the land gained in the Louisianan Purchase.  Please use facts from the video and Study Island to create your arguments.  Feel free to use internet resources to find additional information...please list your references. 
  1. Argue from the point of view of the United States.  Understanding the concept of Manifest Destiny, why should the American have the right to this land, and why is the right of the French to sell it?
  2. Argue from the point of view of the Native Americans.  Why should the land be theirs and should they be angry about the USA taking their land.  Explain in detail.

1 . The U.S should have a right to this land because they paid for it . They bought it from the French . However , the French did not own this land . No-one did . There were Native Americans that occupied the land . The French had the right to sell the land because no-one owned the land , so they grabbed it up .

2 . The Native Americans should be angry that these U.S took their land . They had their own piece , and didn't have anywhere else to stay . The U.S should not have taken over their land .

Point 1

The Americans had the right to the land because they bought it from the french . And they thought it was there land in the first place.


The french sold the land because the Americans said to them that it was there land. And the Americans had the big guns and the french did not have guns .


Point 2

The natives Americans were mad at the Americans . Because they were living on the land before they came .


THE Americans think that the Native Americans should of got off there land because the Americans bought the land from french. And that it was now there land.

My point of view for the Americans is that to us it is our destiny to gain land. The Americans should have the right to the land because it is the manifest destiny. It was right for the french to sell it because technically it is there property.

My point of view for the native American
is the land should be there's because they was settled there in peace in till the Americans came. We should be mad at them because they just bought the land like it wouldn't effect no one. That is what they think.

1.THE AMERICANS SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO THE LAND BECAUSE IT IS IN THEIR COUNTRY AND NOT THE OTHER COLONIES COUNTRY.THE FRENCH HAD THEIR CHOICE OF SELLING THE LAND TO THE AMERICANS BECAUSE THEY HAD THE OPURTUNITY TO BUY CHEAP LAND,AND THE EXPANSION INCREASED THE PRIDE IN THE YOUNG COUNTRY..THAT WAS THE FIRST TRADE THE PEOPLE MADE PEACEFULLY WITHOUT HAVING TO FIGHT!THE U.S ALSO ESTABLISHED IT'S OWN INDEPENDENCE WHILE THE FRENCH AND ANOTHER COUNTRY WERE FIGHTING OVER WHO WOULD TAKE THE U.S INTO IT'S OWN EMPIRE.

2.THE BRITISH FELT THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE GIVEN UP THE LAND BECAUSE THEY DISCOVERED IT FIRST AND BECAUSE THEY FELT THEY DESERVED IT.THEY ALSO FELT LIKE THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY NAMED IT AND LANDED BEFORE ANY OTHER COLONY DID.

My first point is that the US should have the right to have this land because they paid for it. The Native Americans didn't pay for it.

My second point is that they came to this land first. They will be very angry because they should have found their own land.

The Indians should be mad because they had the land first and was living there for a long time and they kicked out there land for no reason. we bought the land in good faith from the french and we didn't know that the land was technically owned by the Indians.

In my point of view the Americans should have the right to this land because they wanted to expand their territory and gain food.And another is reason because they wanted more land and plus the paid for it.




My other point of view is the native Americans should have this land because they were there first.Another thing the reason why the Native Americans were angry about the USA took the land because they found the land first and they shouldn't have to leave that place

The Indians are mad because they think the land is theirs.But we bought the land from France so tough luck.


The Americans think they got this land from France.But we lived here way before any French people so I am not giving up this land without a fight.

USA view: We should have the right to this land because the french sold the land to us. The french sold us the land because they need the money for a war and they also owned the land.

Native Americans view: The land is ours because we were here before the Americans were here. We are anger because the Americans came and took our land.

The American's have the right to the Louisiana land,because they bought it for a really big amount of money.


The French have the right to sell it because they own the land.


The Native Americans had some right to be mad about there property getting owned by the USA because that was there home and maybe they didn't wont there towns to be owned by the USA but they also cant be mad because it wasn't there money.

1. The Americans had the right to the land because they thought god wanted them to have it. They thought that god will be happy if they have it. They wanted more land for more people.
2. The Native Americans were angry at the France and the Americans for taking their land. The Native Americans were there first for however many years. The Native Americans believed that the Americans were trying to steal what was theirs in the first place.

1.Americans have right to this land because their the people with the the weapons.The French had most of everything from the Mississippi River.The U.S thought they can do anything they wanted because they were more powerful.

2.The land should be theirs because they lived there for hundreds of years.The Native Americans should be angry because they just took their land without asking.The Native Americans are mad because their land is being taking and they have no rights and respect.

when tomes jffersins became perdenet one of his top preorteys was to take persuasion in the port of new orilnes its prem location was at the Mississippi river on the gulf of Mexico.

the native amercans did not like the way the amercans bought there land but the amercans bought it so that they can expand

1.)I think the french should have the rights to make the decision if they want to sell there land if they wanted to because they really owned it so it was up to the native Americans if they wanted to

and i think that it was wrong that then french sold land that they dint have but it would be right if they owned it

2.) because they lived they have there crops and families and they should have the owned it so it should have been theirs

From the opinion of the U.S,

We should have the right to sell and buy land. The reason is that we are better than them. It's in our blood to explore.

From the opinion of the Native Americans,

We were here first. It is our land and they do not have the right to sell or buy it. We have families, and crops here. If they should be buying from someone, it should be us.

Part 1:

From the point of view understanding Manifest Destiny,USA has the right to own this land because they bring more people over from Europe and at the same time are producing infants so they could have more room to live.The reason they came to America is because of taxes and religious problems in Europe.That stopped because of the Declaration of Independence.That is why USA has the right to own this land.

I think that the Native Americans should own there land because that's there land and that's where they grew up.An the USA should not take all of there land from them just because the USA want more land.If the USA wanted to expand there land they could at least make a trade and make it even.

From the point of view of the native Americans the land should not belong to the white men we have lived here for decades they have only lived here for a short time, And now they try to take our land No!!! we will fight for are land to the death if that is what it takes.

From the point of view of the Americans why should we have to give up our land that we paid for just for some people that for all we know could, Be hostile they just need to except the fact that this is our land now and nothing is going to make us give it back!!!

The united states should have the right to the land because we purchased it from the french it was a fair deal.

the land should be the native American's because they were there first and and america does'nt have the right to do that

Thomas Jefferson try to buy new Orleans the first offer was 2 million dollars they rejected it. The next offer was 10 million dollars the said yes,Then they said 5 more million would get them Louisiana.The USA wanted 2 have al the land so the native americans did not see that 2 good.they got really tick off

The Louisian Purchase encompassed all or part of 15 current U.S states and two Canadian provinces.it faced domestic opposition become part of the Canadian provinces.

The native americans were mad because they had no idea the there land
was sold and and they were linving there and there land was stolen from
them
