The largest recorded earthquake in California was the 1857 Fort Tejon earthquake, with an estimated magnitude of 8.0. The most destructive earthquake to date was the 7.9 magnitude 1906 San Francisco earthquake, in which over 3000 people perished in the earthquake and the fires that followed. On November 9, 1701 severe destruction occurred and part of the area along the north shore of the Tiburon Peninsula from Logane to Petit Goave sank into the sea. Destructive earthquakes originating from the Oriente fault occurred in 1766. A strong quake partially destroyed the church in Santiago in 1783

Today I was learning about the Tectonic plates and Earthquakes and the first Earthquake is the one that was located in Messina ,Italy:December 28,1908 when the earthquake ended after 30 to 40 seconds 91% of the structures in Messina were destroyed and some 70,000 residents were killed. The earthquake was caused by normal faulting between plates. Italy sits along the boundary zone of the African Continental plate and this plate is pushes against the seafloor underneath Europe at a rate of 1-inch (25 mm) per year.Another earthquake is the Haiyuan, China: 1920 it occurred on December 16 this earthquake what now is is called the 1920 Gansu earthquake killed about 235,502 people and during that a A landslide buried the village of Sujiahe in Xiji County. More than 30,000 people were killed in Guyuan County. The next earth quake is Ashgabat, Turkey: 1948 this earthquake killed over 110,000 deaths. The next earthquake is located in Pakistan: 2005 this earth quake known as Azad Kashmir ccurred at 08:52:37 and after the earthquake As the 8 November, the government of Pakistan's official death toll was 75,000. The earthquake also affected countries in the surrounding region where tremors were felt in Tajikistan, western China; while officials say nearly 1,400 people. The severity of the damage caused by the earthquake is attributed to severe upthrust. The last earthquake is Sichuan, China: 2008 this earthquake occurred at 14:28:01 CST (06:28 UTC) on Monday, May 12, 2008 this quake killed about 68,000 people and 374,176 injured, with 18,222 listed as missing. The earthquake left about 4.8 million people homeless, though the number could be as high as 11 million. Approximately 15 million people lived in the affected area. And those are the earthquakes that I learned today.
