Today you are to investigate one current news event.  For this you can either read an article from an online newspaper (links are below) or watch a video from a network news station (links below). 

Steps to complete your assignment:

1. Find an article
2. Read or watch the story
3. Summarize the story in 4-6 sentences
   
4. Create a time line for your story with at least 5 dates/events (if you cant find 5 dates research the topic and find out some history on it)
5. Write a 2 sentence response to your summary.  Include your reaction to reading the article.
6. Post your article on the comment section of this blog post and include the link to your article or video.

Changes in Ecosystems can have both positive and negative effects on the environment.  Human effects such as polluting and habitat destruction can destroy entire ecosystems.  Other factors occurring in nature; such as forest fires and volcanoes effect ecosystems as well. 

Today's assignment:

1. After reading the "changes in ecosystem" lesson in Study Island you are to select either a natural effect on ecosystems or a human effect on the ecosystem.
2. Once selected, research a human documented example of this change in an ecosystem.  (for example, If i choose a human effect--->I might look up the gulf oil spill and research the effects this disaster had on the ecosystem.)
3. List what you selected and write a brief description of the event. (when, where, and what happened)
   
4. What wildlife/plants were effected by this.
5. How was the overall ecosystem changed by this event.
6. Post answer on this blog
   

Food Chains vs. Food Webs

This week you are to write and describe an example of a food web and a food chain and Post it in the comment section.  DO NOT USE THE EXAMPLE SHOWN IN STUDY ISLAND FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT!

Please respond following the guidelines below:

1. Your first paragraph should include the definition of a food chain and an example of a food chain with at least 5 organisms.  Make sure you name the organism and explain who eats who in the chain.
   
2. Your second paragraph should include the definition of a food web with at least 5 organisms.  Make sure you name the organisms and explain who eats who in the food web.
